鑑於展覽在全球當代視覺文化中與日俱增的重要性，而在全球化下當代藝術雙年展亦逐漸興盛，以至於展覽史在今日學界有逐漸從藝術社會史或體制史中區分出來，自成一獨立範疇的趨勢與可能，本課程旨在描述、釐清與研究上述現象，加以詮釋分析並賦予其可能的意義。本課程分為數個部分：1、追溯展覽史從文藝復興到現代的開端。2、聚焦於1960與70年代當代藝術實踐與策展實踐之間的關係，包括國際超級策展人的掘起。3、1980年代的後現代、後殖民與全球化議題的盛行，如何形成去西方文化霸權的新敘事觀點。4、1990年代至今當代藝術雙年展的爆炸性蓬勃發展，包括亞洲、拉美、非洲與澳洲等地，以及這些展覽帶來的傳統與創新、納入與排擠、全球與在地之間的衝突，以及其翻轉敘事的企圖；此外亦討論移民、離散、巡迴與地緣政治等重要當代策展面向。

本課程並提出展覽史中從19世紀中葉到21世紀的界標性展覽百餘個，供同學們進行個案研究，亦提供參考書目，作為課後自主學習之用。

課程概要(英文)

In view of the growing importance of exhibitions in contemporary visual culture around the world, and the increasing popularity of contemporary art biennials in the context of globalisation, this course aims to describe, clarify and study the above phenomena, to interpret and analyse them, and to give them possible meanings, as the history of exhibitions in today's academic world tends to separate itself from the social history of art or the history of institutions. The course is divided into several sections: 1. Tracing the history of exhibitions from the Renaissance to the beginnings of the modern era. 2. Focusing on the relationship contemporary art practice and curatorial practice in the 1960s and 1970s, including the emergence of the international super-curator. 3. How the prevalence of postmodern, postcolonial, and globalisation discourses in the 1980s has shaped a new narrative of de-westernisation. 4. The explosion of contemporary art biennials from the 1990s to the present, including in Asia, Latin America, Africa and Australia, and the clash tradition and innovation, inclusion and exclusion, the global and the local, as well as their attempts to turn the narrative on its head. The course also discusses the important contemporary curatorial dimensions of migration, diaspora, itinerancy, and geopolitics.

More than 100 landmark exhibitions in the history of exhibitions from the mid-19th century to the 21st century will be presented for case studies, and a bibliography will be provided for independent study after the course.
